I’m just wanting to put this information out there as best I can. My diocese is taking up a collection for this organization, which is described as “the social action arm of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops”. Unfortunately, the “social action” includes regular funding of pro-abortion programs. It looks like next weekend’s special collection is a nation-wide event, and I urge you to consider withholding your contribution.
This seriously undermines our Catholic identity. Please, please, please: Pass this on! I have a friend who plans to put a little non-monetary something in the collection basket so that the powers that be know that her lack of support is intentional. I think I’ll join her.
My husband gave them a nasty letter last year instead of a check. I’ve stopped giving to ANY special collection, unless I know exactly where the money is going (like: collection for the renovations of that particular church building).
Maybe I’m naive, but I didn’t think a parish or a diocese would actually give to a campaign that supports programs like this. How can any diocese promote such a thing? Shouldn’t there be some sort of a…something. Papal rejection maybe? Can this really be allowed?
I don’t know how this slipped through the cracks. It’s so very disturbing.
I am so glad you brought this up as many people don’t know about it. The campaign also supports groups that are for population control. It is amazing that they do this as it is against what we believe (or should believe) as Catholics.
I just found out that our bishop is telling the parishes not to have a second collection for this.
