Ah! The snow is falling. I was hoping we were going to miss this storm. You see, Thomas, as of yesterday, is on the down hill side of chicken pox, and it has been a very long time since we have gotten to go out, what with us being contagious or in great pain for the last month or so. I was looking forward to making a trip for certain provisions down to Elizabethtown. I want cotton stuffing, and I need butter and chicken bouillon, and we all need some new gloves. David says we’re going anyway, but it rained all day yesterday and that snow might be sitting on a nice layer of ice and the roads here are winding, hilly, and narrow. I don’t need cotton stuffing, butter, and gloves so badly that I’m willing to risk lives for them. Oh, well. At least we have lunch.
Next week is the annual agriculture show in Louisville. We went last year, but we weren’t actually doing any agricultural work yet and David had hurt HIS back two weeks before and Thomas was a newborn and, well, it wasn’t as much fun as we’d hoped! Come lunch time, too, there was very little to choose from among the vendors, and whatever was available was swamped with hundreds of other hungry show-goers. With seven kids in tow, it was a recipe for disaster. So we’re planning ahead this year. I had this idea for sandwich bread. You know, bread with the sandwich already in it. Just slice and eat. I made three loaves last night and I’m thinking it’s going to be a success. Today was to be the trial run. After lunch today, I’ll tell you how I made it and what I’ll be tweaking next week.
Where ever you are, I hope the snow is not too deep and the power is on and your home is warm and your family and friends are all safe and snug. Because I love you.
My husband is in DC at a conference this weekend. His flight out on Sunday is cancelled, but he got moved to a later one. Still a strong possibility that one will be cancelled too :-/. I just want him home safe and soon!
Well the rain here is gone (finally) but we have standing water on at least one side of our house (flood plain). Sorry to hear about the snow and ice. One of the many reasons why I don’t live on the East Coast anymore. Everyone here is safe and warm. Randall is one his way to a deacon ordination in Austin with our deacon. I’d love that recipe for the sandwich bread….my kids may like that! Well, I have to run. I have a lot of cleaning to do and two college assignments to work on that are due not this Monday, but the following Monday for my Business Communications class. I spent the better part of yesterday working on finishing my individual assignment due on Monday, and this weekend I have to work on my group project assignment (Microsoft Powerpoint Presentation). I also need to remember to send out family photos. So much to do, so little time in which to do it all. I’m glad to hear that Thomas is feeling better. Chicken pox is never fun, especially when you have to keep the child from scratching themselves. I was lucky when I caught it in 7th grade that I wasn’t itchy…just spotty. (har har, I know my pun is bad). Praying that the weather clears, the snow and ice melts so you can get to town to get supplies. If I was there I would try to help, but I’m stuck here in Texas. /sigh.
Prayers and Blessings!
Dani
I hope you’re able to get out today! We’ve got another grayish-white Minnesota winter day going on…but there’s the play tonight and shopping for football snacks for tomorrow, so I will be getting out eventually.
Wish I had some of that sandwich bread packed.
No snow in west Texas, but we’d take some off your hands if you were willing to take some of our strong winds in exchange for it!
For the record, I wouldn’t have gone to town under those conditions either. Then again, consider the source on that one. I’m originally from Florida. My kind does not exactly do snow!
Snug, warm, and safe here in metro Detroit – just the snow that was already here and the usual late January/early February cold. Hope you’re all safe, warm, and fed!!!
It was a bit slushy out, so we stuck to the highways, but we did get to go out yesterday. Sadly, no one had any of the items I was looking for.
Oh, well. The sandwich bread was a qualified success. Successful in that we all got lunch, it was easy to eat, and most people had seconds, indicating enjoyment. Qualified because it was pretty dry. I’ve got a few tweaks in mind, though!
Very interested in “sandwich bread.” Did you post a recipe and I missed it? Or would you mind posting a recipe?
I didn’t post a recipe, but I’ve got it all figured out now.
I think I’ll post the how-to tomorrow.
