Cautiously Optimistic

A couple of weeks ago, my physical therapist suspended my sessions pending the results of an MRI to see what was really going on in my back.  We weren’t making any progress at all, and it might actually have been getting worse.  So I made an appointment with my doctor, who issued an order for the MRI, and I went to post to schedule it.  This all took about two weeks, in which time my back actually made some small improvement on its own.  The MRI is scheduled for the end of March.

Four weeks! I thought to myself.  Four weeks till the MRI, then another one to get the results from my doctor, then more physical therapy….   I’d read my own xray reports and there didn’t seem to be a major problem.  Just a pinched nerve.  Just pain and numbness and decreased mobility.  Just the thing a chiropractor can help with.  So I called one, and he saw me right away.  He, too, looked at my xrays and read the report and confirmed what I thought: no major problems and no disc issues, just obviously misaligned bones from bending and lifting.

I was relieved, until I laid down on his table.  He’s not one of those gently chiropractors.  It hurt, his adjustments, and he gave me ice and said what he did may cause soreness, but I should notice a change in the morning.  He actually called late last night to make sure I was icing and taking it easy.  And I did.  As I climbed into bed, I noticed my foot wasn’t numb.  I read a book and iced my back and when I rolled over to go to sleep, I found it easier to find a comfortable position.

It’s morning now, and it still hurts and I still can’t take a full step, but I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, and that’s all I really need to keep going.

Back pain just stinks. I’m wary of chiropractors, also, but if it works…

Oh mama, I really hope you feel better, and oh so happy to hear it may all be remedied soon…

I’m glad to hear that the chiropractor works Jenny! I remember my parents used to see a local chiropractor regularly to get back adjustments. Trust me I know how you feel, I have scoliosis and wore a back brace for 4 years growing up. Back problems do hurt, but like you are doing, if you follow the directions of the chiropractor and take it easy and lay off lifting heavy stuff and get regular back adjustments as well as resting then you should be fine. I wouldn’t worry about the MRI at the end of March….I think you already found the problem. Now its matter of staying the course and taking care of yourself. I will definitely keep you in my prayers.

I’m so glad you are going to a chiropractor!! I’ve so been hoping you would even though I remember you mentioning your insurance doesn’t cover it. Last year the lower half of my spine was significantly out of alignment. I knew I’d been complaining when Elizabeth’s dolls would say, “Oh, my back!” Anyway… after chiropractic care was the ONLY thing that took away a chronic headache during my last pregnancy, I went again.

Several months of those painful adjustments later (and making sure to do the prescribed stretches at night!!) and I was finally much better. I’m glad you have a bit of relief!!

On a side note, when I mentioned chiropractic care to my father he called it voodoo! LOL. I would have said as much at one time. But it addresses the root problem. It’s a slow process to be sure but one that is meant to correct and prevent, not just treat symptoms.

Here’s to hoping it’s just what your body needs!! :)

All I have to say is, “Finally!!”

    Love you!

  9. I don’t think is such a thing as a gentle chiropracter. Glad you have some hope.

Can you email me where you went in GA for raw milk? Do they sell other stuff too?

I drove four hours one way for raw milk in GA. :-) It was called Butter Patch Jerseys, somewhere in SC. Hang a left at Columbia. Patrice is the owner and she’s just such a wonderful person. I’ve been meaning to email her about our cow. :-)
